Custom Accounting Software
Davis Business Systems is once again offering custom programming. Our core programmer, Trevor Davis, has 29 years of experience developing accounting, manufacturing and distribution software. His expertise, knowledge and ability to produce bug-free code would be an asset to any programming project your company is undertaking.
Trevor Davis received his BSc. Physics degree in 1977 and started his programming career in the UK in 1979 as part of a team developing MIDAS International Banking software. He immigrated to Canada in 1980 and worked with two software companies before going out on his own in 1982.
From 1982 - 1989 Trevor developed custom accounting, manufacturing, distribution and trucking software for clients including Calona Wines (Nabisco Foods), Clark Freightways, Coast Agri Fertilizer, Pine Tree Nuts (Nabisco Foods), and Western Concord Manufacturing. His most notable project during this period was the "Green Bean" system developed on an IBM S/34 for Nabisco Foods to track inventory, forecasting, roasting and blending of coffee beans for Dickson’s Coffee and Melrose Coffee. Years later when Kraft Foods Canada bought the coffee division of Nabisco Foods the "Green Bean" system was converted to run on an IBM AS/400 and installed at Nabob Swiss Water Decaf and Bourbon Coffee. This software is still in use after 23 years.
From 1989 - 1996 Trevor was given the opportunity to develop a system in collaboration with a group of companies under Robin Hood Multifoods' "Baked Goods" division. This system would include General Ledger, Billing, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Inventory, Sales Analysis and Food Manufacturing.
This group of people with many years of collective experience was intent on determining the most effective methods to collect, process and display operational data. The goal of the group was to develop a system that would rival the million dollar solutions that were available at that time and insure that the information being received by the decision makers in the companies would be accurate and timely and give the best possibility for turning a profit. This software would later become the pre-cursor to the current versions of BS1 software. The methodology currently employed in BS1 software is the direct result of countless hours of meetings with accountants, plant managers, purchasing managers, distribution managers and even a logistics consultant. This software is still in use after 19 years.
In 1996 Davis Business Systems shifted focus to develop a package solution for the PC using the knowledge Trevor acquired from 16 years of developing custom accounting, manufacturing and distribution systems. By 1997 the first version of BS1 software was released and is now being used by developers and consumers in 80 countries worldwide.
Davis Business Systems is again offering custom programming! We will use BS1 software as the foundation and build in the functionality you need to meet your company's specific needs. We believe that with any custom work the planning is the most crucial part of a project. Trevor's experience in determining the fundamental purpose and results expected from a custom change saves valuable time in wasted coding. The result is cleaner code that is virtually trouble free and much easier to maintain. For larger projects Trevor is supported by a group of subcontractors that can be called on if the need arises.
